Reiki is thought to be an old technique for healing that was practiced in the 1800s in order to get rid of pain and mental health issues. Today, people are noticed coming towards practicing this because of certain reasons. Let's see what Reiki is, how does it work, some techniques for Reiki, and how one can become a Reiki practitioner.

What is Reiki?

Reiki is a Japanese art based on energy healing. It is based on the idea that all human bodies have energy fields within them that help them keep alive and thriving. According to the technique, our physical, mental, and spiritual disconnection takes place when this energy field is not flowing to its best or is completely blocked.

The main purpose behind Reiki is to help improve health through balancing energy fields. A Reiki practitioner who has a piece of ample knowledge and experience in this field can do that. They will place their hands over your body as a means to transfer positive energy. While some people may use this practice to improve their mental health, some people use it to alleviate chronic or acute pain.

Does it Work?

Although Reiki is still subjected to intensive research, some experts say it is of good use for patients dealing with physical, mental, and emotional trouble. For example, a study that got published in BMC Nephrology showed that enabling dialysis patients to benefit from "healing touches" might be worthwhile. This might be even more beneficial if this were offered for free to them by volunteers. Although the results for pain reduction might not be significant, it is important to note that patients undergoing this process report slight ease from the discomfort of their condition.

Principles of Reiki

Reiki is based on some principles that give it a deep meaning and purpose for the individual practicing it.

  1. Release of Angry Thoughts - Reiki encourages mindfulness in an individual, and therefore it focuses on releasing angry thoughts.
  2. Release of Worrisome Thoughts -Reiki also encourages you to get rid of thoughts that worry you. This helps the individual find balance and get acceptance around everything.
  3. Embracing Gratitude - Practitioners of Reiki believe hugely in embracing gratitude and be mindful of the gifts today gives us. It will help us in fostering positive energy around us.
  4. Expanding Consciousness - Reiki also actively believes in practicing balancing energy and bringing consciousness to light. It will help you acknowledge what you are conscious about and how you can learn to appreciate the present moment.
  5. Embracing Kindness - Reiki also helps in recognizing the importance of being kind to others around us. This will help spark positive energy not only for others but also for ourselves – something highly important for spiritual health.

How to Do Reiki?

You can practice Reiki by being in a comfortable position. A Reiki practitioner will place their hands gently on certain areas of your body, including the head, arms, legs, and torso. They will utilize different hand shapes for no more than five minutes over those specific areas of your body. These areas are 20 in total.

If a specific injury takes place like a burn, the hands might just be held above the wound.

As it happens, there is an energy transference taking place. The hands of the practitioner might appear to be tingling and warm. Every position of the hand is held until the doer senses the complete transference of energy has taken place.

As the practitioner feels this energy, they will be removing the hand and place it on another area of the body. A session for Reiki generally ranges from 15 to 90 minutes. Some people prefer having the reiki technique in one go, while some prefer taking multiple sessions to get the best result.

Techniques for Doing Reiki

As a general rule, Reiki does not utilize any tools to add value to the practice. However, there are certain cases in which practitioners might feel the need to use crystals. This is especially helpful in people who reside far off. This is important as crystals help to amplify and transfer the energy. This helps them to navigate the one being healed and perform the practice to people several miles away.

Some common techniques for Reiki involve beaming, clearing, extracting negative energies, infusing, smoothing and raking the aura, and centering.

Benefits of Reiki

Reiki helps in a lot of situations, such as improving physical health and mental health. Some people report it to be intensely relaxing, while some people consider it to be highly helpful for alleviating chronic pain and non-communicable disease symptoms, such as neurodegenerative diseases.

The most notable advantage about practicing Reiki is the way how it helps to promote relaxation in an individual and aids in the alleviation of anxiety and stress in the individual. It does so by helping people practice mindfulness, release anger and worrisome thoughts, and improve well being.

Different studies have also shown that it helps to improve quality of life. For example, in 2016, a study was conducted on a woman that showed really positive results. Reiki was able to improve her sleeping patterns, and even she was feeling less depressed.

Moreover, it also helps to increase self-confidence, provide inner peace, and much more. In case you have minor problems, such as headache, nausea, and tension, using it would definitely help you.

How to Get Reiki?

Since Reiki is becoming popular nowadays, therefore, you can easily find it in hospitals and hospices. Moreover, it is given to different medical providers for test purposes. Plus, one session can cost you around $30 to $100, depending on the package that you are using. However, keep in mind that this process is an adjudicative therapy, so you have to check other methods for severe health issues.
